A blank space is a lonely space. Therefore, it inherited two things. First, it comes from the tangibility of the scene, its form and materiality; The other is the soul of space, and the use assigned to it by others.
In the Casa Lobster project, we found that our environment contains these two things, a physical heritage and a funnel, which lead to a backyard through a series of horizontal changes, consistent with the classic bottom floor layout of Eixample in Barcelona. As a spiritual heritage, it functions as an art gallery, founded by the visionary Ren é Metr á s in the 1960s.
Inspired by the few artists on display in the gallery and the bold spirit of Metr á s, we imagined the project as an art performance. An artwork embedded in the center of the main hall, an artifact that can be passed through, touched and touched, its texture, material and lighting diversity, and used to display products. The biggest advantage of retail architecture is that almost any retail architecture, if it even needs such a qualifier, because architecture is always architecture.
We also want to make use of all these characteristics, the formal and spiritual heritage of the environment, in line with the idea of creating artistic performances; A way of hitting the table with one's fist breaks the traditional concept of what an eyewear dealer should look like. In the traditional concept, products are often pushed to the edge of space, piled up, and lacking levels.
One of the most attractive features of the original design of Ren é Metr á s Gallery (commissioned by Metr á s by two young architects, J. Balari and J. Schmid) is the arched glass ceiling in the backyard. Therefore, we propose to reuse this function and reinterpret it in Casa Lobster's "tunnel", where 12 solid methacrylate tubes form an irregular vault and provide an immaterial arch in the space between the multiverse, including handicrafts/performances, as the exhibition space of the main room.
Casa Lobster is not only its exhibition hall, but also an open kitchen workshop shared by customers and opticians. It is a kitchen cabinet, a courtyard, and, of course, an intermediate space connecting one room to another. When you travel in the space, you create a sense of calm.
The room features a series of finishes designed to convey the characteristics of each space. Gently lift the product with velvet. The lighting rendering adds texture to the vertical features of the space and emphasizes the impressive height of the solemnity of the exhibition hall. Wood adds warmth and family to custom furniture. Transparent methacrylate, which can blur the boundary and diffuse light. Fabric used to spread the floor and decorate various sofas.
